Date Posted: 9/28/2026 Alcatraz Island, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, is scheduled to temporarily close beginning on Oct. 26, 2026, while crews replace pilings that secure the ferry dock to the island. DetailsVisitation is expected to be high for the holiday weekend. Take transit, walk, or ride a bike. Park in designated spaces only. Starting at noon on Saturday and Sunday, road closures will be in effect near Crissy Field and on the Presidio. Road closures will remain until traffic congestion clears. DetailsCoastal flooding and beach Hazards related to high astronomical tides and thermal expansion is expected to be moderate Wednesday and Thursday and minor Friday through Sunday. High tides will result in flooding and bring waves farther up the coast. Hazards include strong rip currents and large breaking waves. Stay off jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside infrastructure. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous surf and NEVER turn your back on the ocean. See link below for more beach safety info.
