The short version

You can plan trips without an account. Signing in with Google is optional and only syncs your own saved places, trips and cost splits between your devices. We don't sell data, don't show ads, and only turn on analytics if you say yes.

What we store

  • Saved trips. When you tap “Save & share” we store your trip settings (state, regions, dates, number of travelers, budget level, interests) and any reordering, under a random link ID. Anyone with the link can view the trip.
  • Accounts (optional). If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google, and store your saved places, the links to trips you saved and your cost splits so they appear on all your devices. Only you can read them. You can delete your account and all of this at any time from the account menu (“Delete account”).
  • Votes. Votes on shared trips are tied to a random, anonymous ID kept in a cookie (vid). It isn't linked to your name or email.
  • Feedback. If you send feedback we store your rating, message and the page you were on.
  • Abuse protection. To stop spam we count requests per visitor using a one-way hash of your IP address. Raw IP addresses are not stored, and counters are deleted within a day.

On your device

We use your browser's local storage for your theme, the trips you saved, checklist ticks and your privacy choice. This never leaves your device unless you save a trip or sign in (then your saved places, trips and cost splits sync to your account). Signing in also sets Supabase session cookies so you stay signed in.

Analytics (only with consent)

If you allow analytics, we use PostHog (hosted in the US) to understand which features help, such as how many trips are planned. We don't create profiles or record your screen. We honour the Global Privacy Control signal and “Do Not Track”. You can change your mind anytime with “Privacy choices” in the footer.

If you sign in, we keep when you were last active. If you also allowed analytics, we note which site or link first brought you here (for example “google” or “instagram”). This is deleted with your account.

Service providers

  • Vercel hosts the site and keeps short-lived server logs.
  • Supabase stores saved trips, votes, feedback and, if you sign in, your account and synced data.
  • Google handles sign-in when you choose “Continue with Google”; Google's privacy policy applies to that step.
  • Sentry receives technical error reports (without personal data by default) so we can fix bugs.
  • Groq, or Cerebras as a backup, receives your trip outline (place names, dates, group size, budget level) and your message only when you use AI features (“Ask your trip” or a “Trip story”). To keep AI free for everyone we count AI requests per day against your account, or a one-way hash of your IP address if you aren't signed in; the counts are deleted after a few days.
  • Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap and photos from Wikimedia Commons; your browser loads them directly.

Bookings and links

Booking, map and ticket links open other sites (for example Booking.com, Airbnb or Google Maps). Their privacy policies apply there. We never take payment.

Your choices

You can ask us to delete a saved trip or feedback, or ask what we hold. Email hello@gofuntrotter.com. The service isn't directed at children under 13.
